Privacy Policy

The Canadian HBOT Registry is a voluntary health advocacy project operated by individuals committed to documenting and addressing barriers to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) access across Canada. We are not a corporation, government body, or licensed healthcare provider.

We operate under the principles of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, provincial privacy legislation.

When you submit your story, we collect the following information:

• Name — your full name as provided.
• Email address — used only for follow-up if you consent.
• Province or territory — to identify geographic patterns.
• Medical condition description — your primary diagnosis or symptoms relevant to your HBOT access attempt.
• Access attempt details — how you sought HBOT and what response or barrier you encountered.
• Date of events — approximate timing of the denial or barrier.
• Documentation status — whether you hold written evidence of the denial.
• Consent preferences — your choices regarding follow-up contact and anonymized use of your submission.

We do not collect payment information, government identification, or medical records. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising technologies.

We collect this information to: (a) document HBOT access barriers experienced by Canadians; (b) identify geographic and diagnostic patterns in denial; (c) build an anonymized evidentiary record suitable for submission to health ministries, patient advocacy organizations, and legal researchers; and (d) follow up with submitters who have consented to further contact regarding their case or the Registry’s work.

Submissions are collected via Netlify Forms and subsequently organized in Airtable, a third-party database service. Data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access is restricted to authorized Registry administrators.

The site is hosted on Netlify. Email communication is handled through Proton, a privacy-focused encrypted email provider. We may collect aggregate, privacy-respecting analytics (e.g., via Plausible Analytics) to understand site usage — this does not use cookies or cross-site tracking.

These service providers process data only to deliver their respective services. The Canadian HBOT Registry does not sell personal data or use it for advertising. Provider privacy policies: Netlify | Airtable | Proton.

Your information will be used only as follows:

• Anonymized and aggregated for policy submissions, health ministry reports, and legal research briefings — your name and email are never included in these materials.
• De-identified accounts may appear in public advocacy materials (open letters, parliamentary submissions, media briefings) only if you have given explicit consent.
• Follow-up contact will occur only if you checked the corresponding consent box.

We will never sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties for commercial purposes. We will never share identifiable information with insurers, government agencies, employers, or healthcare providers without your explicit, written, case-specific consent.

Under PIPEDA, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction — request that inaccurate information be corrected.
• Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for contact or anonymized use at any time.
• Deletion — request that your submission be removed from our records.
